It is with very great sadness that I try to write this tribute to "Yumsie"; who was THE MOST SPECIAL pony, not only because of his beauty, or the ribbons he won, or his absolutely outstanding movement; but he had an unbelievable temperament. He absolutely loved to show off, whether it be in the show ring or at home when visitors arrived. I am sure he was the horsey version of a Rhodes Scholar! He was quite the easiest pony I have ever broken in, & by far the nicest small pony I have ever ridden. He had the stride & cadence of a 16 hander.
Those that have been lucky enough to own his progeny all comment on how quiet they are and the way in which they float over the ground.
This is of course because of his beautiful bloodlines. He being bye Coed Coch Bari (imp.), & out of the super moving Nattai Summertime, by the super moving & very special Nattai Apollo; all champions in their own right.
Nattai Cream of Eppynt was a multi supreme champion both led & ridden; including Melbourne & Sydney Royals, Victorian All Welsh as well as Ridden Pony of the Year. He started his ridden career as a 3 y.o. with a champion ridden welsh exhibit (also sup. led welsh) , & his last outing was as an 18 y.o. to accompany a youngster at her first show, & he won yet another Champion. On the way to the ring a young girl was heard to say to her Mother , " gosh, look at that sexy stallion"!
He is the sire of many champions; including Nilton Showdown, Myfanwy, Priscilla, Panache,Maquette, Goldfinch, Goldlight, & Port Merrion. Also Nattai Ceulan, Downsbury Llew Llwyd, Coufel Remington & Aureate Sheen (harness). He also has many, many grandchildren continuing the success, to name a few: Nilton Starcraft, Sky Cloud, Zizou, Macpherson, Minerva, Jenny Wren,Matilda, Zinedine, Minuette, Mynton, Maytime, Kunat Jay Jay & at this years Queensland All Welsh , his great granddaughter Arawel Lodge Matilda (out of Nilton Minuette) , won the Supreme Foal of Show.
He was in his mind , the boss here. He was not a happy boy when the first of the Nattai stallions arrived. He was most indignant when I put Nattai Martyn in a small paddock across a rather wide laneway, from him. I still remember his roaring & kicking of his gate, the only time he was ever angry!!!
He is laid to rest with his two most special girlfriends, Nattai Model & Nilton Soccer (D). He didn't mind covering bigger mares, & was also used to cover a few thoroughbreds.
Model also left on the 21st January, but five years prior.
He was a big part of my life, from the time that I bought him as a weanling from my mother , to put over my Nattai Shon fillies , & the original 3 mares. We miss you terribly "Yumsie", but I consider myself lucky to have so many of your beautiful progeny, to continue the stud.
Rest In Peace Beautiful Man.
